How to make transfers in FPL

How do you make transfers in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and how many do you get?

How do you make transfers in FPL?

When FPL starts, we are given unlimited transfers right up until the Gameweek 1 deadline.

From then on, we are given one free transfer a week. If you save a transfer in any week it is banked and the following week.

While you could not previously save more than two free transfers, this has all changed in 2024/25.

You can now save up to five free transfers, potentially altering the way we plan our teams.

If you don’t use all your allocation, they will carry over to the next week alongside your additional free transfer.

Any transfers made after your allowance of free transfers will incur a four-point hit per transfer.

And new for 2025/26, you will get up to five free transfers in Gameweek 16 to help deal with the mid-season Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

It makes sense to use up all your transfers before this point, as everyone will be topped up to five regardless of how many you have.

Making multiple transfers in FPL

You can make multiple transfers in any given gameweek but each transfer that exceeds the number of free transfers you have available will incur a four-point penalty.

For example, let’s imagine you want to make three transfers before the next gameweek. You’ve saved up two free transfers, which means the first two are ‘free’. The third, however, will cost you four points.

If you then decide to make a fourth, a total of eight points will be deducted.

Equally, if you want to make two transfers but only have one free transfer available, you’ll also be docked four points from your next points tally.

Of course, that might be a price worth paying.

Do you get unlimited transfers in FPL?

When playing the Wildcard or Free Hit chips, you’ll be given unlimited transfers.

In previous seasons, activating these chips has meant you lose any free transfers you have accumulated. In 2024/25, you will retain them.
