What is the Free Hit chip in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and when should it be used?

What is a Free Hit in FPL?

The Free Hit gives FPL managers the chance to make unlimited changes to their team – without points hits – for one gameweek only.

Any changes made only last for one gameweek though, with all the players owned before activating the Free Hit returning for the next gameweek.

How many Free Hits do you get? When should it be used?

In usual seasons, this chip was only available once per season.

But new for 2025/26, there will be two Free Hit available – one in each half of the season.

While the second one is likely best used in a blank or double gameweek, there will be plenty of flexibility for using the first.

What’s the difference between the Free Hit and Wildcard?

The key difference between both chips is that changes only last for one gameweek on a Free Hit, whereas on Wildcard any transfers last beyond a single week.

If you activate the Free Hit in Gameweek 29, for example, your squad will revert back to how it was before you made those transfers when Gameweek 30 arrives.

How do you activate the Free Hit in FPL?

If you’re using the FPL app, you can make changes to your team as normal on the transfers page. When you click ‘next’, you’ll be taken to the confirm transfers page.

Before confirming the transfers, click on the ‘Free Hit Available’ button in the bottom right of the screen – and then click ‘confirm’.

On the FPL website itself, once you go to make your transfers, the ‘Play Free Hit’ button appears above the ‘confirm transfers’ option.

Can you cancel your Free Hit once it’s activated?

Once you play the Free Hit, you cannot cancel it.

Ensure that you’re ready to deviate from your normal team before activating the chip.
