Best FPL premium midfielders 2026/27

Midfielders are more likely to get goals and assists - and they earn an extra point for a goal compared to forwards.

Additionally, they get a point for keeping a clean sheet too.

This is why our premium midfielders need to be captainable options.

In most cases, you can't get away with owning more than two premiums without making sacrifices in other areas of your squad.

Picking the correct ones based on fixtures, when they are among the best captaincy options, is essential.

The big hitters don't often hit the defensive contribution points and it's no surprise. They are heavily involved in the attack and the rule was introduced to help the defensive midfielders more.

Here are our top FPL premium midfielder selections.

Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) - Manchester United

Fernandes remains one of the safest premium picks in the game.

His record-breaking creative campaign last season saw him finish as the highest-scoring midfielder in the game, with nine goals and 24 assists.

His biggest strength is his sheer involvement.

Almost everything United create goes through him. He dominates set-pieces, creates chances at an elite level and is on penalties, giving him multiple routes to points every single gameweek.

Security of starts is another huge advantage.

Bruno is one of the few attackers you can expect to play close to every minute when fit, making him an incredibly reliable long-term investment.

United have by far the best two opening fixtures as they play two of the promoted sides in Hull (A) and Ipswich (H).

Those two games alone almost make him an essential pick to start with.

Antoine Semenyo (£8.5m) - Manchester City

Semenyo's move to City in January last season didn't slow him down.

After an outstanding spell at Bournemouth, he fitted in seamlessly. He scored a total of 17 goals and assisted six over the season and became a key part of City's attack straight from joining.

The Ghanaian ended up as the second highest-scoring midfielder in the game.

He constantly gets himself into goalscoring positions. Last season, he demonstrated that he can produce both goals and assists, while his pace makes him a nightmare for defenders.

Playing alongside City's world-class players will only increase the amount of chances he gets and will also help in the assists department.

I don't see any reason why he won't stay as first choice under Enzo Maresca - but it's worth keeping an eye on his positioning, as he's been quite wide in pre-season. He's been doing very well for assists however.

At his current price, he has the potential to become one of the bargains among the premium midfielders.

City's first five home games against Bournemouth, Coventry, Sunderland, Ipswich and Brighton don't get much better for attacking purposes.

Cole Palmer (£9.5m) - Chelsea

Palmer needs little introduction.

Despite a poor season by his own high standards last season, he still has the potential to be one of the best options in the game.

He is still Chelsea's creative hub and talisman, who takes set-pieces and penalties, so has the routes to points and a high ceiling.

In the 2023/24 season, he scored 22 goals and assisted 13 and the season after, he managed 15 goals and 10 assists.

Last season, he was hampered with a long-term injury, which no doubt had a knock-on effect on the rest of his season.

With a full summer off, there is no reason why Palmer can't hit the heights we know he can.

If Chelsea improve under new manager Xabi Alonso, Palmer has every chance of returning to the elite numbers that made him one of the most popular FPL assets in recent years.

It's worth noting he got a knock against Spurs in a pre-season friendly but he should be fine to start the season.

Bryan Mbeumo (£8.0m) - Manchester United

Mbeumo has already proven himself as one of the Premier League's most consistent attacking players.

He scored a respectable 11 goals and assisted three last season in his debut campaign for United.

The ex-Brentford forward is clearly a first-team player for the Red Devils and he has both goals and assists in his locker.

Another major positive is his versatility.

Whether deployed on the right wing or in a more central attacking role - or even as the number nine as he has been in pre-season with Benjamin Sesko yet to feature - Mbeumo consistently finds ways to get attacking returns.

He can be an explosive player, which we witnessed during his time at Brentford, and the first two fixtures make him a fine option to start with, especially for those planning an early Wildcard.

Morgan Gibbs-White (£8.0m) - Nottingham Forest

Gibbs-White continues to fly under the radar, despite scoring 15 and assisting four.

He is currently owned by fewer than 12% of managers, which pretty much makes him a differential.

Everything Forest do in attack tends to flow through him. When his team score, he is usually involved in one way or another.

Gibbs-White also has routes to points, being on some set-pieces and having a share of penalty duties.

Chris Wood may have been the first-choice taker but he is not expected to be a first-team regular any more. Gibbs-White or Igor Jesus should be next in line.

Forest are also under new management with Oliver Glasner, which will no doubt improve them going forward and should only enhance his output.

Glasner's new side have a mixed bag fixture-wise early on but they do have some plum games in there, such as Leeds (H), Spurs (H), Coventry (H) and Ipswich (A) in their first eight.

Gibbs-White is absolutely nailed and his side's talisman, so he's a player you can easily play in any fixture.
