Best budget FPL midfielders 2026/27

Here are our top selections.

Marcus Tavernier (£6.0m) - Bournemouth

Tavernier could quietly become one of the bargains of the season.

When fit, he has consistently been one of Bournemouth's most creative players.

His underlying numbers last season were excellent, producing seven goals and four assists with 9.0 expected goals (xG) and 4.6 expected assists (xA).

He should also benefit from Bournemouth's attacking style, with the Cherries continuing to create plenty of chances under their new setup despite the departure of Andoni Iraola.

They have scored nine goals in their two pre-season friendly games so far.

Tavernier offers multiple routes to points. Whether playing from the wing or in a more advanced midfield role, he regularly finds himself in dangerous positions, while also contributing creatively for teammates.

With Eli Junior Kroupi out injured for a few months, he should have a large share of penalty duties.

Justin Kluivert could also take them but his minutes are far less secure, having spent a good proportion of last season out injured.

Bournemouth play Manchester City (A), Liverpool (H) and Chelsea (A) in their first seven but they also have some good fixtures against Everton (H), Brentford (H) and Sunderland (H). Newcastle (A) could be more straightforward than previous campaigns too.

Iliman Ndiaye (£6.0m) - Everton

Ndiaye has all the ingredients to become one of the standout value midfielders this season - if he stays at the club.

Priced at just £6.0m, he finished last campaign with six goals and three assists which is fine for his price.

The Senegal international also hit his defensive contribution threshold six times.

He is expected to remain one of Everton's primary attacking threats, is absolutely nailed to start and is a fine talent who should only get better.

There is talk of him moving, so he is one to keep an eye on, but if he stays at Everton he is probably the best budget midfielder in the game.

Perhaps most importantly for FPL managers, Ndiaye is the number-one penalty taker, adding another route to points.

Everton's attack should continue to revolve around him, and if they improve going forward, Ndiaye could comfortably outperform his modest price.

The Toffees have some nice fixtures early on, coming up against Crystal Palace (H), Ipswich (H) and Hull (A) in their first six.

Enzo Le Fee (£6.0m) - Sunderland

Le Fee may not grab the headlines but he offers one of the safest combinations of minutes and consistency in the budget midfielder bracket.

The Sunderland playmaker scored five goals and six assists in 2025/26.

His underlying numbers from last season were decent too - 5.2 xG and 6.0 xA - while also offering defensive contribution potential.

He hit the threshold in eight games, which gave him an extra 16 points.

Le Fee also takes a share of set-pieces and is next in line for penalties when Habib Diarra isn't on the pitch, further boosting his appeal. The duo could share spot-kicks.

Managers looking for a dependable starter and someone who will tick along with points should have him firmly on their watchlist.

Sunderland's first two games also do not get much better, as they take on Ipswich (A) and Fulham (H).

Kevin Schade (£6.0m) - Brentford

Schade is one of the most exciting differentials in FPL.

His pace and direct running make him a constant goal threat - and he is capable of producing explosive returns, as proven by his hat-trick in Gameweek 18 last season.

Although consistency has occasionally been an issue, his underlying attacking data remains impressive.

He scored eight goals and five assists last season with an xG of 12.08, which was the highest among all midfielders.

Keep an eye on their pre-season games however, as new signing Jaiden Anthony could be a threat to his minutes, while he has also been linked to Roma.

Brentford also have an attractive run of fixtures to begin the campaign, giving Schade every opportunity to hit the ground running.

They play Spurs (H), Leeds (A), Sunderland (H) and Bournemouth (A) in the first four.

Pascal Gross (£5.5m) - Brighton

Gross has never been an explosive FPL asset but he does come in at a very cheap price and has routes to points.

The German midfielder takes set-pieces, can assist and could now well be on penalties with Danny Welbeck joining Chelsea.

He scored one goal and assisted six last season.

At £5.5m, you're getting a proven player with a high floor and plenty of assist potential.

He may not produce explosive double-digit hauls very often but few midfielders in this price bracket offer the same combination of security, creativity and consistency.

In a season where many managers will be trying to squeeze in multiple premium players, Gross looks perfectly priced to quietly tick along with steady returns while also acting as an enabler.

Anton Stach (£6.0m) - Leeds United

Anton Stach looks like a fine option at his price also.

The German international has quickly established himself as a key player for Leeds United since arriving from Hoffenheim.

The defensive midfielder has all the qualities that make him particularly well suited to FPL's Defensive Contribution scoring system.

However, there's more to his game than defensive work. Last season he demonstrated that he can contribute at both ends of the pitch, registering five goals and six assists despite playing in a deeper midfield role.

He hit his defensive contribution threshold in 10 games.

His ability to arrive late in the box and his threat from set pieces provide an additional route to attacking returns, something that many similarly priced midfielders lack.

Although his set-piece situation will need to be monitored as new signing Harry Wilson (£6.5m) has been taking corners and free kicks in pre-season ahead of Stach.

Priced at £6.0m, the 27-year-old still offers an excellent blend of security of starts, defensive points potential and occasional attacking returns.
