Best FPL budget goalkeepers 2026/27

FPL budget goalkeepers have always been a popular and effective choice.

A rotating pair of £4.5m keepers, or one £4.5m and £4.0m option respectively, allows you to spend your budget elsewhere.

There is almost always a bargain that emerges each season and let’s face it, nobody likes spending too much money in the goalkeeper position.

Here are our top selections:

Bart Verbruggen (£4.5m) - Brighton

If you're looking for the safest all-round £4.5m goalkeeper, Verbruggen is arguably the standout option.

Brighton quietly developed into one of the Premier League's best defensive sides during the second half of last season.

They ended the campaign with the third-fewest goals conceded (46) and the fourth-best expected goals conceded (48.87).

Verbruggen himself was equally impressive, making 106 saves - the third-highest total.

That combination of save volume and strong defensive numbers gives him multiple routes to points.

Although Jan Paul van Hecke has departed, Brighton have moved quickly to strengthen their defence, so Fabian Hurzeler's side could once again rank among the league's better backlines.

Brighton also begin the campaign with favourable fixtures, making Verbruggen an excellent option for managers looking to rotate less during the opening weeks.

They play Aston Villa (H), Leeds (H) and Coventry (A) in their first four games.

Djordje Petrovic (£4.5m) - Bournemouth

Bournemouth weren't the tightest of defences last season - they ranked bottom seven for both goals conceded and xGC.

The Cherries certainly have the squad and defence to be a decent defensive side, so they may well surprise us under new manager Marco Rose.

Petrovic made the second most saves last season (109), so an improvement in their defence could work heavily in his favour.

For budget goalkeepers, saves is what turns a decent score into a great one.

There are however reasons for caution.

European football could stretch their squad this season, while the departures of Andoni Iraola and Marcos Senesi mean there is naturally some uncertainty surrounding Bournemouth's outlook as a whole.

Even so, Petrovic still looks one of the strongest £4.5m options available.

Bernd Leno (£4.5m) - Fulham

Leno has become one of the most reliable budget goalkeepers in FPL over the past few seasons.

Fulham consistently rank around the top half of the league for defensive performance and while they may not produce elite clean sheet numbers, they rarely concede heavily.

They finished last season conceding the 10th most goals (51) and with the 10th best xGC (45.64).

Leno's biggest strength has always been his shot-stopping.

There are a few question marks heading into the new campaign though.

Marco Silva's departure signals the beginning of a new era under Alvaro Arbeloa and it'll be interesting to see how Fulham set up under the new regime.

Their opening fixtures are also mixed, so Leno may appeal more as part of a goalkeeper rotation than as a set-and-forget option.

Fulham rotate well with Ipswich for the first 10 games.

The Cottagers play Crystal Palace (H), Ipswich (A), Hull (H) and Coventry (A) during the first eight matches.

Antonin Kinsky (£4.5m) - Spurs

Kinsky could be the bargain keeper of the season.

After an incredibly difficult spell midway through last campaign, the young Czech goalkeeper finished the season strongly, producing a number of important saves as Spurs secured Premier League survival.

More importantly for FPL managers, Spurs have made some shrewd signings this season, especially at the back.

The additions of Senesi, Andrew Robertson and Sandro Tonali, alongside established names such as Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence, have significantly strengthened the defensive unit.

If Spurs perform anywhere near their potential, Kinsky could have one of the strongest back fours protecting him in the entire £4.5m goalkeeper bracket.

There is still some uncertainty surrounding Tottenham's goalkeeping situation, with Guglielmo Vicario's future unresolved.

But if Kinsky starts the season as first choice, he'll immediately become the most attractive budget goalkeeper in FPL.

Spurs also have good fixtures to start the season.

They play Newcastle (H), Everton (H), Villa (H) and Coventry (H) in their first five home games.

Best FPL £4.0m goalkeepers

While the £4.5m goalkeeper bracket has a few quality options, the same can't be said for the £4.0m price point.

In previous seasons, we've occasionally been handed a starting goalkeeper at the minimum price but that's not the case this year.

Thanks to the promoted clubs signing new first-choice keepers after the game launched, there are currently no £4.0m goalkeepers expected to start in the Premier League.

Martin Dubravka (£4.0m) is perhaps the most interesting name in the £4.0m bracket.

While Kinsky is expected to begin the season as Tottenham's first-choice goalkeeper, Spurs' goalkeeping situation isn't completely settled.

Dibravka brings a wealth of Premier League experience and, should Kinsky struggle for form or suffer an injury, he could find himself back between the sticks.

Jason Steele (£4.0m) is the other standout £4.0m goalkeeper.

The experienced Brighton stopper has plenty of Premier League experience and has previously shown he is more than capable of stepping into the starting 11 whenever required.

While Verbruggen looks firmly established as Brighton's first-choice goalkeeper, Steele remains the obvious deputy.

Given Brighton's good defensive numbers last season, owning Steele alongside Verbruggen could even appeal to managers who want guaranteed coverage of the Seagulls' goalkeeping position.

If you are looking for the best £4.0m to just sit on your bench, one option is to go for the one who plays for the same team as your main goalkeeper, although with this strategy it's best to pick the player who is clear second choice.

This way if your main goalkeeper gets injured, the back-up will take his place and you don't have to use a transfer straight away.

Another approach is to pick a non-playing £4.0m who is not very highly owned. The more popular ones may drop in price when the masses realise they are not starters.
