The Magpies are not a team to back ahead of Gameweek 1.
Eddie Howe left during pre-season, with Matthias Jaissle only taking charge of his first match on Saturday (August 8).
Additionally, a number of their star players have left, including Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon.
The fixtures are not great either, with Newcastle 19th on the Hub’s ticker for Gameweek 1-4.
Best Newcastle FPL players 2026/27: Malick Thiaw (£5.0m)
Thiaw was Newcastle’s second highest-scoring FPL player last season behind the departed Guimaraes.
He scored 126 points in his debut season, netting four goals and earning the most defensive contribution points in the squad (24).
The German centre-back was one of the best defenders in the game for goal threat. He ranked third for expected goals (xG) ahead of Gabriel and joint second for big chances.
He should continue to be first choice under Jaissle but as stated above, it’s worth waiting to see how the team performs in the early gameweeks before committing to him.
Best Newcastle FPL players 2026/27: Harvey Barnes (£6.0m)
Barnes scored seven goals in 2025/26, bang in line with his xG (7.07). Only Gordon bettered his underlying data.
The winger’s main issue in the past has been security of starts.
Despite making 37 appearances, he only started 19 games, making him difficult to back in FPL.
But that could change amid Newcastle’s sales, particularly as new players settle in.
If Barnes can become a regular in Jaissle’s starting 11, he could be worth a look when the Magpies’ fixtures turn.
Best Newcastle FPL players 2026/27: Lewis Hall (£5.0m)
Hall has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United – but the likelihood of any deal progressing has been played down by top journalist David Ornstein.
The left-back had limited attacking returns last season – one goal and two assists – giving Thiaw the edge among the defenders.
But among limited current options in the squad, Hall is still worth monitoring.
Keep an eye on the Englishman’s fitness. He reportedly has a minor issue, left their training camp early and did not feature in Jaissle’s first game.
