Best Brentford FPL players 2026/27: Dango Ouattara (£6.5m)

Ouattara already has four attacking returns in five pre-season games for Brentford, and as we move closer to the start of the new season there is every possibility the Burkina Faso man will carry that form into the Premier League.

The Bees have an appealing start to the season and rank 6th in the Hub fixture ticker, with their attacking credentials in particular looking good as they host Spurs on the opening weekend.

At £6.5m, Ouattara presents a reliable and proven FPL pick with multiple routes to points, and while there is renewed competition out wide from new signing Jaidon Anthony, the Burkina Faso man offers unique qualities that should see him remain a lynchpin in this side.

The quality Ouattara possesses has seen him become quite a clinical FPL asset in terms of his actual productivity in attacking areas, regularly producing assists and goals without racking up huge shot numbers or firing in endless crosses.

That extra degree of quality on the ball is perhaps what propels him ahead of Kevin Schade as a fantasy asset, with both generally taking up very advanced positions, but Ouattara arguably showcasing slightly more clever movement and finding the pockets to do real damage to the opposition.

An example of this is his penchant for winning penalties – the five spot-kicks he won last season were more than any player in Europe’s top five leagues, to the benefit of Brentford’s penalty taker Igor Thiago.

Best Brentford FPL players 2026/27: Igor Thiago (£8.0m)

Following a huge breakthrough season in the Premier League, Thiago has received a substantial price hike in FPL.

Still, at £8.om there is plenty of reason to consider the 22-goal striker, who arguably remains the most appealing forward pick after Erling Haaland.

His price perhaps looks daunting for a Brentford striker when the likes of Joao Pedro at Chelsea and Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres are available for cheaper, but there is arguably good reason for this.

Security of minutes is the clear differentiator between these forward options, where Gyokeres for example will face stiff competition from Kai Havertz, while Thiago should be set to play 90 minutes in pretty much every league game.

Brentford missed out on European qualification on the final day of last season, so there is little scope for rotation in terms of the Brazil striker, who even found himself starting up top for the Selecao at the World Cup such was the brilliance of his 2025/26 campaign.

With penalties in his locker and Ouattara in play to win plenty of spot kicks for the striker to dispatch, Thiago offers one of the safest forward routes in the game through huge open play and substantial set-piece threat, in a consistently attacking Brentford side under Keith Andrews.

Best Brentford FPL players 2026/27: Kristoffer Ajer (£4.5m)

Ajer has become a considerably more intersting FPL option following an injury to regular starter Sepp van den Berg.

The former Liverpool man has been ruled out for around three months, leaving Ajer in pole position to partner Bees skipper Nathan Collins at the back.

Where things get interesting is the price tag – while Collins will run you a fairly hefty £5.5m thanks to his set-piece threat and defensive contributions potential, Ajer will run you just £4.5m despite offering a very similar proposition.

The current situation gives him a clear route to regular minutes, and like Collins, Ajer offers plenty of upside beyond just clean sheets.

The Norwegian notched four goals for his former club Celtic and has three under his belt for Brentford, but really it’s defensive contribution points where the 28-year-old could excel.

Ajer hit the defensive contribution points threshold in nine of his 20 Premier League starts last season, and extrapolated to an entire season of starts those numbers would’ve seen Ajer right among the highest ranked players for this metric.

While his height and aerial ability certainly make him a set-piece threat, his ability to carry the ball out of defence means he can also pick up assists and occasional bonus points, so along with the huge defensive contributions output there appears to be a nice range of routes to points.

Brentford were solid at the back last season too, with only four teams keeping more clean sheets, and goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will be popular for this reason despite a price hike to £5.0m.

The biggest caveat is security of minutes long-term, with Brentford having signed a new central defender in the form of Jannik Schuster, but the 20-year-old Austrian is unlikely to displace Ajer unless the latter’s form falls way below current expectations.

As far as Gameweek 1 is concerned however, the £4.5m price tag is extremely appealing for a starting asset on a good mid-table side, and with plenty of strings to his FPL bow there are more than enough reasons to back Ajer from the off.

The big caveat is that Ajer’s security isn’t guaranteed for the entire season. Brentford have other centre-back options, including summer signing Jannik Schuster, while van den Berg’s eventual return will create further competition. For Gameweek 1, though, the combination of a £4.5m price tag, a likely starting role and his defensive contribution potential makes Ajer one of the more appealing budget defenders in the game.
