Best Aston Villa FPL players 2026/27: Emiliano Buendia (£6.0m)

Argentina international Buendia looks set to start the season playing behind Ollie Watkins in the Aston Villa attack, and his price tag makes him worth some consideration given how favourable Villa’s early fixtures look on paper.

Unai Emery’s side are ranked 2nd in the Hub fixture ticker, and their opener perhaps isn’t as menacing as it appears considering Brighton’s European commitments.

Buendia meanwhile has been flying in pre-season with six goal involvements in seven games, and with Morgan Rogers having departed for Chelsea there is call for a player of Buendia’s archetype to step up.

If someone like Johan Manzambi steps into the number 10 role, Buendia is still likely to start thanks to his versatility allowing him to play out wide too, and with eight attacking returns in 21 starts last season we have evidence of his FPL productivity.

Fitness and minutes have been reccuring issues for Buendia, but other departures mean the stars have somewhat aligned for the Argentine to make the starting role his own.

The 29.year-old also picked up 8 defensive contribution points last campaign, and has enough creativity and goal threat to merit some consideration among the other £6.0m midfielders available.

Best Aston Villa FPL players 2026/27: Ollie Watkins (£8.0m)

Watkins comes in at a reduced price for the 2026/27 season, and despite missing out on pre-season, he’s likely to go straight into a Villa side that has lost prodigal striker Brian Madjo to injury.

Tammy Abraham looked like an able deputy for Watkins ahead of the Gameweek 1 clash with Brighton, but he too has now picked up an injury that leaves Watkins as the runaway favourite to play 90 minutes as the centre forward.

At £8.0m, and with penalty duties up in the air, this is something worth paying attention to. The fixtures for Villa should provide plenty of attacking opportunities, with the Gameweek 3 trip to Hull marking a real fixture swing for the Villans.

Watkins meanwhile has plenty of routes to points and at this stage he is FPL pedigree, with 20+ attacking returns in five of the last six seasons – including a mammoth 38 returns in 2023/24.

With the pace and quality to offer regular goal and assist output from open play, Watkins is a threat at set-pieces too, and will truly be the focal point in Gameweek 1 with Rogers and Villa’s striking alternatives all out of the picture.

Best Aston Villa FPL players 2026/27: Matty Cash (£4.5m)

Ian Maatsen looked like a standout budget pick in defence heading into Gameweek 1, but the imminent signing of Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri could spell danger in terms of rotation for the Dutchman.

Cash meanwhile remains the senior right-back of choice for Emery, and despite some links to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the transfer market, Cash is one of the key leaders in this Villa side – often donning the armband – and is unlikely to be displaced by Wan-Bissaka any time soon.

The West Ham United defender is more likely to be signed as cover and a rotation option and lacks the attacking qualities Cash has in his locker, whereas Ruggeri looks to have a stronger chance of displacing Maatsen.

All this talk around fullbacks would be lessened if Ezri Konsa were to remain at Villa thanks to his generous FPL price tag, but with rumours of a move away persisting, Cash looks a far safer bet for reliable minutes.

Konsa’s departure would only further solidify Cash’s place in the team with the England man capable of filling in at right-back, where Cash has plenty of license to join the attack, managing three goals and three assists last season.
