FPL team stats: What we've learned from the first five gameweeks
The first five gameweeks of the 2026/27 season are complete, so what can we learn from the data so far?
We take a look at some of the key headlines from a team perspective.
It’s important to stress that the amount of data we have so far is still limited but the international break provides a good time to take stock of the early stats.
Brighton flying high
The Seagulls lead the way for both goals scored and expected goals (xG).
They have over-performed so far, with their 16 goals greater than their 12.03 xG, however it’s been a superb start for Fabian Hurzeler’s side.
Pascal Gross has been at the heart of it and is one of the top transfer targets for FPL managers ahead of Gameweek 6.
While Kaoru Mitoma is out injured, Maxim De Cuyper is an appealing option as a defender playing out of position on the wing.
But there are other options in defence, with Luka Vuskovic looking like the steady defensive contributions earner, as well as carrying some attacking threat.

Spurs under-perform
Spurs are bottom of the table, having picked up just two points in five games and scoring two goals.
The underlying attacking data is more positive though, with a reasonable 6.89 xG amassed.
No team has a bigger gap between their goals scored and xG, indicating there’s room for Roberto de Zerbi’s men to improve.
They have a number of new signings settling in, while the likes of Mohammed Kudus and James Maddison will provide added spark once fully fit.
The jury is still out on their defence, ranking midtable for expected goals conceded (xGC).
But Jan Paul van Hecke is an option for wildcarders to consider. He’s averaged 8.6 defensive contributions per 90 minutes and carried some attacking threat, scoring once and having three big chances.
