Who are the best Coventry FPL players for the 2026/27 season?

Best Coventry FPL players 2026/27: Milan van Ewijk (£4.0m)

If you want a defender with attacking upside, Van Ewijk looks a good option.

The right-back recorded eight assists last season, more than any of his teammates.

He occasionally played further up the pitch and takes long throws too, making him one of the better budget defensive prospects.

Van Ewijk may not be a regular defensive contributions earner, averaging 6.42 per 90 in the Championship.

But it’s the threat going forward that is the main appeal here, as well as security of starts on the right.

He is Coventry fan Brett Woodward’s preferred pick, as explained in his video on the FPL Wire.

Best Coventry FPL players 2026/27: Bobby Thomas (£4.0m)/Carl Rushworth (£4.5m)

Thomas scored three and assisted four last season, a decent return for a centre-back.

His defensive contribution numbers look solid too, averaging 8.56 per 90 minutes, a figure that will surely rise in the top flight now Coventry will be the underdogs in most games.

Like all promoted defenders, Thomas will cost just £4.0m, making him a versatile pick for a variety of chip strategies. He can be part of a Bench Boost or be a back-up option most weeks.

The downside is Coventry have three centre-backs who could be first choice in a likely back four – Thomas, Liam Kitching and Aurele Amenda.

Amenda, 23, joined this summer and has Champions League experience. It could be a matter of time before he disrupts the established centre-back partnership.

And while Thomas seems to be the more likely to remain in the side, both he and Amenda are right-footed centre-backs.

Goalkeeper Carl Rushworth looks a safe pick if in doubt, although he will cost more at £4.5m.

One of the players to make the Championship Team of the Season, Rushworth has just been signed from Brighton for a club record fee. His 6.7 goals prevented was the best record in the league.

Best Coventry FPL players 2026/27: Haji Wright (£5.5m)/Caleb Yirenkyi (£5.0m)

Wright offers an attacking option at a cheap price, £0.5m lower than a group of strikers in the £6.0m bracket.

The American has been Coventry’s top scorer three seasons running, scoring 17 in their title-winning campaign.

He is expected to be on penalties and be first choice up front.

But his fitness is unclear. He did not feature in the latest pre-season friendly, despite playing 45 minutes against Leicester on August 1.

There has been no official mention of an injury amid rumours of one, so FPL managers will have to keep an eye on their final friendly and our team news article ahead of the Gameweek 1 deadline.

Another player to monitor at the weekend is newcomer Caleb Yirenkyi, who is also priced appealingly if he becomes a regular.

The 20-year-old Ghana international, who scored against Panama in the World Cup, joined from Danish club Nordsjaelland.

His main appeal looks to be defensive contributions. He averaged 14 per 90 minutes last season, two above the 12 needed per game to earn two extra points in FPL.

Sixty-plus minutes and defensive contributions would represent a solid four points on a Bench Boost – but selecting him with limited information is a bit of a gamble.
